Dr. Dendy Engelman: Your Scalp Deserves a Little TLC!

Posted by NatureLab Tokyo on

Most of us strive for healthy, shiny and sometimes long hair but fail to realize that healthy hair begins at the scalp. Yes, getting trims, using nourishing products and really taking care of your hair will help you get to the hair you desire – but neglecting your scalp will only prevent any progression. Licensed Dermatologist, Dr. Dendy Engelman says she’s noticed that the scalp is often an overlooked area of the body. “It’s still skin and deserves care,” she adds.

How can you tell if your scalp needs a little more TLC? Well, if you’re experiencing any dryness, itchiness, irritation and dandruff, it may be time to prioritize your scalp more. We’re talking scrubs, serums and any other scalp-focused treatments. If you ask us, we know our 2-in-1 Scalp Scrub + Shampoo works best to really get your scalp to its best healthy state.

2-In-1 Scalp Scrub + Shampoo

Engelman shares that our Perfect Shine Clarifying Scalp Scrub is her personal favorite scalp treatment. It’s a 2-in-1 sugar scrub and shampoo made with probiotic-rich sake water. The scrub will gently remove product build up and environmental impurities to reveal a healthy scalp and immensely shiny hair.

A scalp scrub can be an effective way of tackling dandruff, eczema and a dry scalp. Plus, you may experience some much needed relief if you’re experiencing any itchiness. When you exfoliate your scalp with a product like a scalp scrub, it works to nourish the skin and will prime the scalp for absorption of any hair growth or health boosting ingredients. It will also stimulate circulation to your hair follicles to promote hair growth.

How to use our Scalp Scrub

Once a week during your hair washing routine, replace your Shine Shampoo with our Perfect Shine Clarifying Scalp Scrub. Apply the scrub on damp hair and make sure you cover its entirety – from your scalp to your ends in a circular motion. Give a little extra scrub to your scalp to ensure it’s being exfoliated. Once you’ve covered your head in the scrub and really focused on your scalp while taking in the refreshingly light scent, thoroughly rinse your hair.

How often should you use Scalp Scrub?

Using a scalp scrub removes oils from the scalp, so frequent exfoliation may cause the scalp to over-produce oil. To ensure this doesn't happen, we recommend you use our scalp scrub once a week.

NatureLab Tokyo Technology

“The technology in the scrub is powered by plants but goes above and beyond to deliver powerful results for natural, beautiful and healthy hair,” Engelman says. The platinum fibers do the trick by giving the hair extra shine without weighing the hair down, and the grape extract and hyaluronic acid work together to mitigate damage and keep the hair hydrated (especially in these hot summer months), she shares.

Engelman has implemented this product into her hair care ritual, “I apply this product to my damp hair and from root to ends, massage it into the scalp, rinse it out and follow with the Perfect Shine Conditioner.” She says that the rich and foamy lather that the scrub creates will keep you feeling fresh and clean for days to come.
