4 Ways to Maintain a Healthy Scalp


Healthy hair starts with the scalp. A clean, happy scalp with good circulation provides the best conditions for growing strong and healthy hair. Incorporating these four tips and tricks into your routine will help to keep your scalp happy and your hair healthy.
 

1. Personalize your shampoo schedule

There’s no easy answer to knowing exactly how often you need to shampoo. Everyone’s scalp creates different amounts of oil. And while a little bit of oil is actually healthy for hair, too much can leave it looking dirty, feeling weighed-down, and even smelling less than fantastic. If you’re working out and sweating a lot or have a particularly oily scalp then washing daily might be a good idea -- just make sure to use conditioners and styling products that will stop your hair from becoming dry or damaged. If you have a medium or dry scalp then you might be able to shampoo as infrequently as once or twice a week. Try different products and washing schedules and see what your hair (and scalp) responds to best.

2. Condition Evenly

There is a decades-old stigma around avoiding conditioner when it comes to the scalp. However, skimping on conditioner at the roots can cause unevenness in strength and texture. It can also lead to dryness and eventually, dandruff. You don’t have to condition with every wash, but it’s a good rule of thumb to condition (all the way to the roots) at least every three days to keep the hair and scalp moisturized and feeling its best.

3. Brush Daily

Brushing your hair may be an obvious daily ritual, but it’s the brush you're using that is crucial. By using a natural bristle brush (a vegetable or boar brush), you can better distribute the oils produced along the scalp and more evenly motion them through your strands. 4. Sun Protection
