Easy Ways to Make Your Hair Color Last

Easy Ways to Make Your Hair Color Last

Summertime is just around the corner and we’re ready for lazy beach days, picnics, and spending the entire weekend outside. And while a little Vitamin D can do the body some serious good, it’s important that those of us with color-treated hair take a few precautions in order to keep our locks from becoming lackluster. Here are some pro tips on how to extend the life of your color in between salon visits.

Wash less. Wash better.

Shampooing hair too often can strip color and natural oils that help it bind to hair. Instead of washing everyday, try every other or every third day. When you do wash, reach for a shampoo and conditioner that will help combat color fade, like our Perfect Repair Shampoo & Conditioner duo.

Lower the heat

It’s no secret that hot tools can wreak havoc on hair, but they can be even more damaging to color-treated tresses. Heat can open the hair cuticle, which causes color to fade. Try experimenting with some fun no-heat hairstyles, or if you are using a tool, keep it below 360 degrees.

Treat yourself

Keep your hair healthy and your color beaming with special at-home treatments that restore dull hair and revitalize shine, like our Perfect Repair Treatment Masque

Chill out

A cool rinse after conditioning in the shower can do wonders for both your color and your hair by sealing the cuticle and adding extra shine.

Take cover

We apply sunscreen to our bodies, so it makes sense that we should also use it to protect our hair. Spray-in hair SPF can go a long way to making sure the sun doesn’t strain your strands. And when you’re outside, it’s always a good idea to wear a wide-brimmed hat and tie hair in a low bun to protect from harmful rays.
