Improve Your Mental Health: Breathing Exercises, Moments of Pause, Being Present

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and while we aim to help you find beauty in yourself and in everything you do, an important part of what our brand stands for is encouraging you to work on your mental health.

In need of a few self-care practices to nourish your mental health? Here are some we recommend.

Breathing Exercises

Breathing exercises can reduce stress, anxiety and are great rituals to implement in your self-care routine. If you’re ever feeling overwhelmed in a moment or need to recenter yourself, different breathing exercises are the perfect tool to have handy. The amazing thing about these exercises is you can do an effective session in just 5 minutes. Here are some breathing exercises we’ve been trying out.

Moments of Pause

It’s undeniable, we live in a “go, go, go” world. Do you ever have time to just sit each day – without any sort of long, running list pulling you from yourself? Unfortunately, the world is not going to slow down no matter how much we all want it to. This is why we all need to commit to taking time to pause. Taking a moment of pause provides you with a break from an unhealthy cycle of rushed living you may be experiencing.

Next time you’re feeling overwhelmed or like your life revolves around your work calendar and email, set everything aside and just sit there. Remove any distractions and for a moment forget about the nagging list of tasks in the back of your mind. This mindful pause may help reduce stress you’re feeling, shift your focus and manage your expectations.

Being Present

Whether it’s your personal life, work life or the everyday events and stressors going on in the world – you may find it challenging to be present or focus on being in the moment. Any anxious thought, worry and negativity may be overtaking your mind, causing you to be distant in what you’re doing. Practicing being present in the moment will help your mental health as well by distracting your mind and straying away from any negative thoughts and enjoying the company you’re in.
