It’s been a long haul of staying inside, overdue haircuts, and maybe even a few less than stellar at-home dye jobs. But our locks are finally making their way back out into the world and we just want them to look their best, you know? Unfortunately, summer weather can be synonymous with frizz—heat and humidity wreak havoc on dry, damaged hair and the best way to deal is through some serious hair self-care. Here are some tips on how to tame the frizz for a summer full of fabulous hair.
Get a trim
One of the easiest ways to prevent damage and frizz is by getting regular trims (read: every three months). Split ends are first to frizz, so keeping things fresh can go a long way.
Quality over quantity
Shampooing too often can dry hair out and strip it of natural oils that keep frizz at bay. Try washing less and just rinsing with conditioner in between to hydrate and smooth strands. And for the days you are washing, switch to a sulfate-free shampoo like our Perfect Smooth Shampoo—sulfates can damage hair and mess with the hair cuticle, upping the frizz factor.
Product management
It’s no secret that the most effective way to manage frizz is by using the right products to treat and tame hair. Our Perfect Smooth Blowout Lotion and Perfect Smooth Hair Oil work to lock moisture in and seal the cuticle, delivering sleek, manageable hair that lasts all day.
Turn down the heat
It’s always helpful to avoid excess heat on hair, which can cause dryness and damage. Try letting hair air dry (avoid getting too aggressive with the towel drying, as this friction leads to frizz) after applying product. For curly girls, a diffuser helps to evenly distribute the air flow, delivering more definition.
Sleep on it
Silk pillowcases have been gaining in popularity, and for good reason. They help to protect your hair while you sleep by maintaining its natural oils for improved hydration.
Mask up
Keeping hair nourished, hydrated and healthy is a huge factor in how much frizz you experience. Using a mask like our Perfect Repair Treatment Mask once a week can help to repair any damage from color, chemicals or styling tools.
