Inspired by Crisp Mountain Air, Sacred Incense, and Earthy Woods
Hinoki Forest came about through memories of spending time in the woods of Japan and connecting with the earth we live on. At once both bright and soothing, fresh and cozy, this fragrance is a new interpretation of the classic scent of Hinoki used in Japanese tradition and perfumery for centuries.
Chiaki Nomura, the perfumer behind this fragrance, was inspired by her experiences of hiking through Yakushima Island and the concept of forest bathing, where soaking up the lush air, natural light, and fresh scents of peaceful woodlands is thought to bring healing benefits to the mind and body.
Every ingredient was selected with careful intention in order to transport others – between winding tree trunks and dappled light, to slow down and immerse oneself in a grounding, therapeutic atmosphere.
Hinoki holds a sacred connotation in Japan, as its wood has long been used to build temples and holds spiritual meaning for many.
It also evokes nostalgia for Nomura, bringing back moments of cleansing in Hinoki bathtubs, breathing in its scent in incense, and experiencing its wet and dry fragrance at once while soaking in hot springs.
Paired with its cultural significance, Hinoki wood’s complex and beautiful profile makes it a staple among Japanese fragrances.
